Armed police and ambulances descend on UK town with situation 'ongoing'

 Armed police units and dozens of other emergency service vehicles have descended on a Welsh town this evening (November 2) as police confirmed a nine-month old baby was killed in a dog attack.

The tragic update comes after a major presence centred around Crossway in Rogiet, Caldicot. Those locally witnessed both police and ambulance crews in attendance to the residential property in the area.

Gwent police have now confirmed that a baby had died as a result of a dog attack. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gwent Police said the statement: "We received a report of a dog attack in an address in Crossway, Rogiet around 6pm on Sunday 2 November.

"Officers attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service. A nine-month-old baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The dog has been seized and removed from the property."

Chief Superintendent John Davies added: "We understand that there will be concerns around this incident, but officers are on scene and will be making further enquiries as the investigation progresses. If you have concerns or information then please do stop and talk with us.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called today at 18.02 to reports of a medical emergency in Rogiet, Caldicot. We sent one Cymru High Acuity Response Unit, an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, a Duty Operations Manager and one Emergency Ambulance. Crews were supported by our Hazardous Area Response Team."

Tributes have now poured in for the family involved as the tragic incident emerged this evening. On social media, one person wrote: "My heart is bleeding for all affected by what has happened this evening in Rogiet. Praying hard for those affected."

Another said: "Absolutely heartbreaking, thoughts are with the family."

As of 22:45pm, police are still on the scene as enquires into the dog attack continue and are expected to do so throughout the night.
