New Man City signing immediately in disagreement with team-mate after £46m transfer

 Incoming Manchester City signing Tijjani Reijnders has already entered into a disagreement with one of his new team-mates before his move has even completed. Reijnders is set to undergo his medical in the early part of this week.

City have agreed a £46million fee with AC Milan for Reijnders to move to the Etihad Stadium. Should he pass his medical, Reijnders should become a City player in time to feature in the Club World Cup.

The controversial tournament kicks off on Sunday when Al-Ahly face Inter Miami. City's campaign gets underway next Wednesday when they face Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia.

They then take on UAE's Al-Ain in Atlanta on 23 June and Serie A giants Juventus in Orlando on 26 June in the group stages. They should make it through to the knockouts, with some tipping them to reach the final, which will take place on 13 July.

Reijnders is eyeing the tournament as the perfect way to bed into his new club. The midfielder is currently on international duty with the Netherlands and admitted he is relishing the chance to make the move.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "The medical tests? I couldn't wait any longer. The intention is to participate in the Club World Cup with City. I'm excited about it.

"This way I can get to know my new teammates straight away. I'll return to Zeist on Sunday evening. Then I'll prepare for Tuesday's match against Malta."

It's safe to say that not everyone is looking forward to the revamped tournament though. City have already played 57 games this season across the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

With as many as seven more games still to play, then less than a month between the final and the new season kicking off, Reijnders' soon-to-be team-mate Manuel Akanji has insisted that the Club World Cup is needed about as much as a hole in the head.

"I have been a strong critic of this competition for some time now. We players would love to have some holidays, and some time for our bodies to rest. My City teammates are not exactly overjoyed about the tournament either," he said recently.

"But it's now right in our faces, and there is nothing we can do about it. If we take part, then of course we want to win it. But if we reach the final, then the time period for us to recover ahead of the new season will become even shorter.

"Set against the expectations we have, this hasn't been a good season. We finished third in the Premier League, three points behind Arsenal, and qualified for the Champions League.

"But it is still our worst campaign for some time. However, Pep Guardiola still said he was proud of us for never giving up. The season could have finished far worse than it did."
