Budget efficiency opportunity to strengthen financial management: DPR

Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani affirmed that state budget efficiency presents an opportunity for the government to enhance state financial management.

The house speaker made the statement while chairing a DPR plenary meeting at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta

According to Maharani, the government's efforts to realize state budget efficiency are an obligation in accordance with the mandate set forth in Law Number 17 of 2003 on State Finance.

"It states that the state finance must be managed orderly, in compliance with laws, efficiently, economically, effectively, transparently, and responsibly, while paying attention to fairness and appropriateness," she remarked.

To this end, she noted that the DPR commends the government's efforts to realize efficiency for the community's welfare.

Nevertheless, she said, the DPR emphasized the importance of ensuring that the state budget efficiency policy runs and serves the people's interests.

She affirmed that during Session II of the 2024–2025 Session Year, the DPR had executed its budgetary responsibilities by discussing the efficiency of the 2025 state budget through its commissions in collaboration with related working partners.

"The DPR, through related commissions, has held various working meetings with working partners to provide approval for the efficiency of the ministries and agencies' budget," she remarked.

Maharani also emphasized that the DPR will continue to monitor and supervise the implementation of the 2025 Fiscal Year State Budget Law, especially related to the implementation of efficiency and enhancement of programs in ministries and agencies.

Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto issued Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2025, directing a reduction of Rp306.69 trillion (approximately US$18.48 billion) in government spending within the state and regional budgets for 2025.
